Repertoire
Stenzel & Kivits play different musical genres such as classical, pop and jazz side by side, but above all in a surprising mix. Classical music is given a jazzy performance and pop or jazz sound surprisingly classical.
No two Stenzel & Kivits shows are the same. Tenor Mr Stenzel likes to perform arrangements of Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi and various arias by Giacomo Puccini from Tosca, for instance. Mr. Kivits likes to take musical turns to jazz (Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck), pop (Adèle) and even country (Johnny Cash).
Mr. Kivits is responsible for arranging the scores. Besides great composers like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, he ventures into a wide variety of compositions and styles. So definitely do not expect a concert of exclusively classical works! Stenzel & Kivits respect the classics, but do not shy away from musical challenges!
During performances, Stenzel & Kivits deal flexibly and creatively with special requests from the audience. "Any Requests?" Incidentally, the overestimation of both gentlemen in such situations should certainly not be underestimated.
Mr Kivits‘ specially prepared classical grand piano is the central focal point during Stenzel & Kivits’ performances. Tenor Mr. Stenzel alternately indulges himself on all sorts of curious instruments and props. The timpani with jazz brushes still sounds fairly normal. But what about a rectangular double bass with only one string? Or a bicycle pump and a quirky score stand? A home-built drum machine with parts from the 1950s pushes the pace of both men a bit further. And what is that old record player doing on stage?
